How to Use PowerPoint 2003: Slide Backgrounds

Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2003 is a program that allows you to visualize PowerPoint presentations without having to download the full version of it.

It can be very useful in the office or in your home in case you need to work with PowerPoint presentations but do not want to occupy your hard drive with a lot of information. It is completely compatible with Windows operating systems and the best of all, it´s free.

If you are new to creating PowerPoint presentations, and wanted to learn on how to apply slide backgrounds, here are step-by-step tips on how to do it.

Step 1

Click on ‘Designs’ at the top right side of your PowerPoint screen. If you don’t have it, click on ‘New Slides’, which is on the top right side as well, and then click on ‘Designs’.

After you click ‘Designs’, you will have different types of themes and background layout on the right side.

To apply a desired background design for your slide – simply scroll down the background layouts and choose the one that you wanted to apply in the slide that you are working on. There are bunch of themes and background layouts as you scroll down, and you can even apply a background with borders and sidebars.

Now, as you click on the type of background that you wanted to apply on your slide – click on the dropdown arrow first, and then select ‘Apply to Selected Slide’ so it won’t be applied in all of your slides.

Step 2

Right click on your page, select ‘Background’ and a new window will pop up.

Click on the drop down menu, select ‘Fill Effects’ and a new window will pop up again.

On the ‘Fill Effects’ window, you can choose a preset color or create a mixture of colors that you want. You can also choose the type of background radiance that you want whether it is designed vertically, horizontally, diagonal up or down, and etc.

Once you are done with setting up your desired background, click ‘OK’, another small window will pop that will show you how your background will look like – if you like it click ‘Apply’ and you are done.

Step 3

Do the same procedure like on Step 2 – right click, select ‘Background’, click drop down menu and select ‘Fill Effects’.

On the Fill Effects window, click on ‘Pattern’, and below your Pattern page is where you can choose your ‘foreground and background’ color.

Again, once you are done, click ‘OK’ – a small window will pop up on how your desired background will look like, and then click ‘Apply’ if you like it.

Step 4

It is still the same process from step 2 and 3, however; in this case you will choose ‘Texture’ which you can find on the ‘Fill Effects’ page.

On ‘Texture’ you can choose a ready to use background or a preset background. Meaning, you can’t change any of them. After you select a color or texture that you want, click on ‘OK’, and click ‘Apply’ if you like it.
